Yesterday we had a very fun Father's Day. Ben had no church meetings (woohoo!!) so that right there was very exciting. We did presents in the morning and then after church we headed down to Ben's parents' house for a family BBQ.
The dads in the family: Ben, his brother Stan, his dad, his brother James

Two reasons to celebrate Ben today:

James, Shelley and their kids:
So I can't believe I haven't blogged about this very exciting event in my life... Ben's brother James and his wife Shelley and their 4 kids moved here a couple of months ago. Yay!!! And not only do they live in the same town, they actually live in the same neighborhood. It has been so much fun to have them here.
Me and Shelley:
Shelley and I are having so much fun together. I consider her a very good friend so I was beside myself when they decided to move here.
One more thing about yesterday. Perhaps ya'll can chime in on a debate we have going on in our house. Ben thinks it's hilarious to pick Sam up like this:
Sam finds it very funny as well. I, the nervous-nelly mother, am very concerned that this is not good for my baby's neck. What do you think? Am I over-reacting or is my husband going to cause brain damage to my child?
I will leave you with a funny conversation exchange (courtesy of Noah, of course). After church all the kids like to go visit our bishop's office because he will give them candy if they can tell him the name of a prophet.
Bishop: Hi Noah! Can you tell me the name of a prophet?
Noah: Prophet.
Me: No, honey, you need to say the name of a prophet.
Noah: Prophet.
Me: No, honey, who is a prophet?
Noah: Happy Father's Day!
Me: Okay, you know what? You have the name of a prophet. What is your name?
Noah: Brothers and sisters?
Me: (in my head... what the crap??) Okay, sweetie, say Noah.
Noah: Noah
Bishop: Here you go! (gives him some undeserved candy)

Okay, I'm with you. I don't think picking your kid up by his head makes sense. . .then again, that's just me.
what a fun father's day and i loved the exchange between noah and the bishop--pretty hilarious! p.s. i think sam will survive his dad's antics without any brain damage...especially since he thinks it's funny.
It sounds like you had a fun father's day and I am with you I would be nervous as well if I saw a child picked up that way but I guess if he likes it and you have trust that Ben wouldn't let him gt hurt.
Give everyone our love and we hope to see you in Sept.
We love you all
Yeah, I'm with Melissa on that one....
But cute pictures of the boys, and how fun that you have family so close by! I didn't realize they were in the same neighborhood!
And thanks for the conversation with Noah! It was a good laugh! I love that kid!
Welcome back to blogging....I missed you!
Mitch picks our boys up like that. It drives me nuts. I really want to ask my chiropractor her opinion but I'm too embarrassed to admit that my husband would do anything that looks so awful.
a few comments from the "child abuser" himself...
1) it's only happened 5-6 times. it's not like i'm going on walks with him like that.
2) a recent survey said that 9 out of 10 chiropractors do that to their children.
3) all dads try that at least once. whether you see them or not. it's part of earning the daddy merit badge.
4) kids love it.
I'm with the child abuser. All of our kids loved it!
James
At least he's not picking him up by his ears. HA! I'm with you on this one, regardless of his justification for the behavior above although it was a funny touch! P.S. do you know who I am? I'm your long lost cousin who emailed you some time ago asking if I could lurk around your blog! You didn't respond so I went ahead and have being doing so without your permission! I'd love to get an invitation to Melissa's too .. hint hint. Hopefully we'll see you this summer.
Em, YES I know who you are! I didn't get your email though. I'm not sure why. I responded to your comment on a previous post but you must not have seen it. Of course you may lurk on my blog! And I'm sure Melissa wouldn't mind either. Just email her so she has your email address and ask her for an invite. I'm hoping to make it in September.
It was a fun day together! James has picked our kids up like that... in fact I think Emily has, too.... I have a picture from that day of James picking Daniel up like that.. he must have gotten inspired by all of our debating in the front yard after Ben picked Sam up.. I get nervous about it sometimes, but the kids do seem to laugh when he does it.. I like the funny conversation Noah had with the Bishop... so cute.. I also have to say that we love, love, love living here... it's fantabulous!!! love ya', Shel-
Daylan picks up Paige and Taylor like that, but when he does they tend to grab onto his arms and hold themselves up. Nonetheless, they love it and giggle the whole time.
I'm with those who not necessarily in favor of having their kids picked up by their heads. Call me a nervous-nelly too. If Chad did that I would definitely protest, although I'm not sure my protests would be heard or responded to. I would still make them. Keep up the protesting. You will be heard one day.
