Last Thursday Sam turned 9 months, so now he has officially been outside of my body for as long as he was in. I don't know why, but I think of that as a major milestone. It's amazing to think that a mere year-and-a-half ago he was just this microscopic blob of cells and now he's my smiling, laughing, cooing, crawling, playful baby boy.
We had his well-baby check-up last week - here are his stats:
Height: 27 3/4 inches (50th percentile)
Weight: 17 lbs, 7 oz (10th percentile)
Head: 17 3/4 inches (50th percentile)
So, although he gained a little weight, he dropped in percentile AGAIN. What's the deal?? His pediatrician isn't overly concerned since he's developing and seems healthy, but she does want him to come in for a weight check next month. I wish I could get Sam excited about solids. He goes to town on veggie puffs and wagon wheels, but other than that he could care less about food. Just yesterday, he managed to polish off a stage one baby food (bananas) for the very first time. And it took him two sittings. By the time Noah was 9 months he was eating 3 meals a day and I'm certain he was way beyond the stage one food. Oh well, I'll just keep trying and hopefully he'll pick it up a little more soon.
In other Sam news, we just completed day two of sleep training. It's way overdue as he has been waking up 3 or even 4 times a night. I was wary of doing it at first because of the whole weight issue (when your baby is in the 10th percetile for weight, cutting out 3 of his nursing sessions doesn't seem like the way the go) but I talked about it with his pediatrician and decided if I night-wean him he will probably be more apt to eat more during the day. Plus, it's high-time he sleep through the night, don't you think? So Ben's been going in to give Sam cuddles when he wakes at night instead of me. The first night he was pretty mad that he wasn't getting to nurse but last night was much better so hopefully it won't be long before he's sleeping all the way through.
One last thing about my Sam... Lately he's been doing the sweetest thing. When I'm feeding him he'll put one foot up on my arm and then feel around with his hand until he finds mine. One he finds it, he just holds my hand until he's finished nursing. How precious is that??
Okay, here are his 9 month pictures:

I love the middle picture - he's looking at me like he's trying to figure out what on earth I'm doing.

So cute!
And as a mom of a certain three year old who exists on the occasional fruit snack pouch and sippy of milk . . . I have no advice for you.
Best of luck with sleep training - I think it's harder on the parents than it is on the child . . .
PS - Glad you liked the announcement, since you are the announcement goddess, I take your approval very seriously! ( I wish you could have taken the pictures for me!)
Hi Amy,
The pictures are so sweet! Give the boys some big lovies from us. It's great that you all are settled in your home, that has to feel fabulous!
I was going to mention that our kiddos have all been on the smaller size and low percentile at their well check visits also. In fact.... Emily has remained that way. Our last doctor in Beaumont was concerned when Daniel was in a very low percentile and referred us to a dietician, but when her evalution showed that all was fine he just said "well, after looking at all the Simiskey kids, I think it's just normal for your family." I wanted to share that with ya' since Sam sounds similar in his stats. He is such a cutie-pie!!!
Take care!
love ya',
Shelley
Cute, cute, cute. Good luck on the sleep training, I hear ya, nine months is too long. I think it was at 9 months I just let him cry it out and it was like magic, he started sleeping great.
Not much advice in the food department either.
