Ah, the Post Office

Why is going to the post office always such an ordeal? This morning I attempted to mail off a package at the post office. Since I don't know this area like the back of my hand yet, I looked online and got directions to the nearest location. Well, apparantly usps.com has some updating to do because, as it turns out, 345 Hwy 6 is actually a construction site. I remembered seeing a sign with an arrow and the words "US Post Office" down a ways on Hwy 6 so I thought all would be fine. Just a little detour. Well, apparantly Sugar Land likes to hide its post offices and then locate them in the most nondescript building possible with no sign on it to give away what type of establishment may be inside. Long story short (kind of), I drove for 1/2 hour before finally finding the darn place. When I got inside the line was long of course and they didn't have the size box I needed. Note to self, do not count on the post office for packing supplies. Needless to say, the trip was entirely in vain and I still have a package to mail.

At least I managed to keep my reaction to extreme irritation. Unlike my reaction to a certain situation a few years ago, which my dad refers to as "The Great Post Office Debacle of 2003." That experience ended in me completely losing it and crying for literally 45 minutes while commuting home on the streets and trains of downtown Chicago. In my defense, I was 2 months pregnant with Noah so I would like to blame the whole thing on out-of-control hormones.

Still, I hate the post office.

Amen sister. I think the post office should definitely have a DRIVE THROUGH so I wouldn't have to carry a baby, hold a toddler's hand while balancing two big boxes and opening the door myself!! In order to avoid the post office this year, I went by myself at 10 p.m. and was very surprised and scared to find a dozen homeless men sleeping in there. I did get my package mailed, but I went as fast as I could with my fingers shaking!!

Ugh - hate the post office too. The lines in Philly were always soo bad, I dreaded it each time - especially around Christmas.

Good thing - those new self serve kiosk things. Never a line, in and out while Savvy uses my keys to try and open all the PO boxes. Of course, it doesn't solve the problem of needing a box - but for most things its a lifesaver.

With another baby on the way, I'm thinking of buying my own scale and printing postage from home so that I can avoid it all together - I can't imagine doing it with TWO (or more) little ones.

We HAVE a drive through at our post office but I for some reason never come when it is open. It has really weird hours. like 10:30-12:30 and then a break for lunch and then like 1:30-3:00 and then whammo! It's closed.

And then it's only open on like mon, wed, friday.

And then only if there is a full moon.

ha ha

Oooh, a drive through would be awesome! Wish they had one here. Tif, hilarious about the full moon. :) I would still have to come prepared though, which is my main problem. I love the kiosks too, and normally no one is there (do people think they're harder than they are?) but OF COURSE about 8 people walked in and got in the kiosk line the other day (the day after this post) as I was standing right next to it putting my things in a box. So I still had to wait. Sigh. I can't seem to catch a break at that blasted place!
